Columbus Regional Hospital Case Study
The Corporate Center at the Columbus Regional
Hospital had to undergo some
major aesthetic and energy control renovations in 1999. Among
the tasks was a retrofit of window film to the existing glass. To replace
the glass with new insulated units would cost ten times more than adhering
a product to the existing windows that would reduce the heat gain, heat
loss, glare, ultraviolet radiation, and energy bills. The product chosen
would have to match the other buildings on the extensive campus, a dark
brown film with high performance ratings. Will A. Clark, the project
engineer, contacted Film South, Inc. to handle the responsibilities of
this task. After reviewing the specifications and cosmetics of several
films, Mr. Clark decided on R-15 Bronze by CPFilms. This product would
reject 76% of the total solar energy, 99% of the ultraviolet radiation,
and 92% of the glare causing visible light. The film also has the ability
to retain about 30% of
the heat inside during the winter months while maintaining the desired
aesthetics. Film South completed the retrofit installation on schedule
with virtually no inconvenience to the building tenants, working in
sensitive areas on the weekends. Mr. Clark stated that there "were
several comments from the staff in the building on the courteousness of
the workers and how please they were with the results of putting window
film on the windows". |
